Beginner’s belt color. White represents a primitive stage of achievement; thus, the seed as it lies dormant beneath the snows of winter.

Hyung

Each belt grade has a hyung (form) requirement. Most grades only have one new form. Below is the hyung required to advance to 9th Gup: Sae Kye Hyung Il Bu.


Soo Ki Dae Ryun

Students will learn two self-defense techniques at each grade utilizing some type of block, evasion, and/or counter strike.

  1. One Elbow
  2. Two Elbows

Jo Ki Dae Ryun

Students will learn two self-defense techniques at each grade utilizing some type of block, evasion and/or counterstrike.

  1. The FRONT
  2. SIDE of the king

Ho Sin Sul

Students will learn two self-defense techniques at each grade utilizing some type of joint manipulation or throw.

  1. Same side
  2. Opposite side

Weapons

The WTSDA only has four official weapons required for training: Bo Staff, Knife, Sword, and Cane. A weapons form is not required until advancing to senior Brown Belt/3rd Gup.
