This week we will focus on sparring.
Free sparring is not the place to abandon our basics. It is where we test whether our stance, guard, distance, timing, targeting, and control still work when another person is moving and making decisions.
We will build toward free sparring in stages. First, we will establish a balanced fighting stance and reliable guard. Then we will work on distance and targeting through controlled partner drills. Finally, students who are ready will apply those skills in sparring rounds.
The goal is not to overpower your partner. The goal is to make good decisions while protecting yourself and helping your partner train safely.
As you work this week, ask yourself:
Bring your dobok, sparring gear, mouthguard, and athletic cup. All sparring this week will follow WTSDA sparring rules for colored belts.
The take-home plan includes separate Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Black Belt pages. Choose the page that matches your rank and scale the physical work to your current readiness.
Train deliberately. Protect your partner. Maintain control.
