Meditation of the Week: Repeatedly practice all techniques already learned.

The eleventh attitude of Tang Soo Do is to “repeatedly practice all techniques already learned.” Review and reassessment of all your techniques is essential to mastering Tang Soo Do. Every practitioner experiences “drift.”  Tang Soo Do allows for some variation of technique based of efficiency of movement from one body type to another, but there are times when we need to be corrected. So…repeated practicing all your learned techniques on a regular basis helps us avoid the “drift.” The review keeps the learned techniques fresh in our minds.

This sounds like a good principle that would be applicable in lots of different aspects of our lives. I am thinking about two passages in Psalm 119 and Psalm 143.

Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works.

Psalm 119:27

and

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.

Psalm 143:5

In the first passage the Psalmist is desiring to understand the works of God throughout history. By understanding his works and wonders, we begin to understand his character and what God desires of us in response to Him. In the second passage, the Psalmist recalls what God has done, and it keeps him on track and responding appropriately in life and practice. The reader is repeatedly reviewing (practicing) the works of God to keep himself from drifting away from God. The world is so distracting, and we are easily entangled with responsibilities and worries. Contemplating on God’s word daily (repeatedly) will keep the rest of life in balance and perspective.
