SOAR Training: Ho Sin Sul, Weapons, and Looping Drill

Ho Sin Sul begins at close range, where posture, balance, grip alignment, and a clear exit matter more than strength. A release is not complete when the hand comes free. It is complete when you recover your guard, create safe distance, and can leave the situation.

Weapons training sharpens the same principles. A staff makes poor alignment easy to see. The path must be controlled, the stance must support the movement, and the weapon must return safely. Students will work only instructor-assigned material with approved equipment and full spacing.

The Looping Drill adds continuity. Partners exchange attacks and targets while maintaining rhythm, distance, recoil, guard, and balance. The goal is not speed for its own sake. The goal is to move continuously without losing technical control.

As you train, ask yourself: Did I use posture before strength? Did I control the line without forcing my partner? Did I recover my guard? Could I stop immediately when the instructor called? Did the next movement begin from a balanced position?

Bring your dobok, water, and any instructor-approved practice weapon assigned to you. Do not bring live blades. Come ready to train carefully, communicate clearly, and help your partner improve.

DojangFlow is now the central place for students and parents to track attendance, monitor progress, and prepare for required written tests. The Learning Center includes rank-based test practice, basic Korean study, and WTSDA tournament-rule review. Future rank written tests will also be administered there, and updated Study Guides are under Resources > School Resources. Existing students and parents should use https://dojangflow.base44.app/. If you still need access, ask Mr. Calvert for another invitation email. The /register page is reserved for prospective new students.

Weekly Conditioning

This week’s take-home plan uses strength, endurance, mobility, solo Ho Sin Sul mechanics, Looping Drill shadow work, and rank-appropriate weapon practice. Use the page for your rank and adjust the physical load to your current readiness.

Outside class, use solo shadow practice unless a trained partner is available and both students understand the assigned drill, tap signal, and contact limit. Use only instructor-approved practice weapons in a clear space. Never practice with live blades.
