Congratulations to our newly promoted 7th Gup (Sr. Orange Belts). Well done! I also want to extend a hge thank you to the new Soar Tang Soo Do Black Belt team.

This week we return to Ho Sin Sul, weapons, and the Looping Drill. These areas may look different, but each tests the same essentials: posture, distance, alignment, control, and recovery.
Ho Sin Sul is not a contest to see who can apply the strongest lock. A useful response begins with a stable base and a clear understanding of the attack line. The defender moves toward a safer position, applies the assigned response under control, releases immediately when the partner taps or says stop, and exits balanced and ready.
Weapons practice makes small errors easier to see. A poor grip, crowded stance, wandering arc, or uncontrolled finish becomes obvious when a practice weapon extends the line of the body. Do not bring or use live blades.
The Looping Drill develops continuity without sacrificing control. Each strike or kick must have a recognizable target, complete recoil, guarded recovery, and the ability to stop immediately. Rhythm matters, but clean movement matters more.
As you train, ask yourself: Did I establish my base before trying to move my partner? Did I improve my position instead of pulling against strength? Could I stop the technique immediately? Did I recover my balance and guard before continuing?
Bring your dobok and water. Bring an assigned practice weapon only if your instructor has approved it for your rank and the class plan.
Class schedule
Beginning this week, the calendar changes. Beginner Class (Beginners through Green Belt) from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and Advanced Class (Brown through Black Belts) from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Please arrive early enough to be ready at your scheduled class time.
School App Update
All students and parents must be registered in DojangFlow so they can track attendance, monitor progress, and complete required written tests. Existing students and parents can access the web app at https://dojangflow.base44.app/. In the Learning Center, you can practice rank-based written tests, study basic Korean, and become familiar with WTSDA tournament rules. Future rank written tests will also be administered there. Updated Study Guides are under Resources > School Resources. If you do not have access, ask Mr. Calvert for another invitation email. Prospective new students may register at https://dojangflow.base44.app/register.
Weekly Conditioning
This week’s take-home plan supports stance strength, grip endurance, mobility, controlled exits, Looping Drill rhythm, and assigned weapon practice. Use the page for your rank, but scale the physical load and range of motion to your current readiness.
Practice slowly enough to preserve structure and control. Partner joint work, resistance, throws, and weapon defenses belong in supervised class.
